Recently our instax GURU & the lovely blogger/vlogger ‘Rukaya Cesar‘ were lucky enough to test out Afternoon Tea at Gong on the 52nd Floor of ‘The Shard‘! All thanks to the awesome guys & girls at ‘Virgin Experience Days‘!
Here is our guest bloggers view of the afternoon & evening… ENJOY!
When you think of London what’s the first thing that springs to mind? Big Ben, the London Eye, the Shard – all the big tourist spots right? Of course! When you live in London though, you often forget how many amazing things you have on your doorstep; therefore when INSTAX got in touch with me and asked if I’d like to join them for Afternoon Tea at the Shard, I immediately said yes!
The Shard is a relatively new addition to the London skyline, but it’s quickly become famous for its amazing view and appeals to those visiting the city as a place to visit. Plus it’s packed full of restaurants and bars – you’re spoiled for choice!
On our Instax day out we visited the Gong restaurant, part of the Shangri-La Hotel, on the 52nd floor of the Shard. That makes it the highest bar and restaurant in London which is insane! Despite it being a slightly foggy day (it is England after all), we had the most incredible view of Tower Bridge from the moment we sat down.
Sipping champagne in the sky was a very surreal experience, and we were in awe when the lovely staff of Gong brought out a wonderful three-tier Afternoon Tea. I couldn’t help but laugh at the sandwiches, have you ever seen that many colours of bread on one plate?! They were so delicious though, packed with loads of exquisite flavours that complemented each other perfectly. Next were the traditional scones which in my eyes are the definition of Afternoon Tea! We both agreed they were the best scones we’d ever tasted, and you know when the clotted cream has a flower on it, it means serious business.
Last but by no means least, the beautiful display of desserts. I’m not sure I could find the words to say how perfect these were to be honest, but truly scrumptious would definitely sum it up!
Despite the food now being gone, that didn’t mean our Shard experience was over yet! Not only did we have an incredible Afternoon Tea to enjoy, we were also treated to the activity that brings most people to London Bridge and to this amazing building – The View from The Shard! By the time we’d finished Tea the sun had set, so once we made it to the highest point of the building the lights of the city were on and we got to see the view in a whole new way.
I always find it funny how we humans are fascinated by seeing cities from such a height, but there is something special about observing London at day and night from above. There are two levels you can visit at the top of the Shard, Level 69 and Level 72, the latter being their Sky Deck where you’re more exposed to the elements! You can feel the wind and can hear the sounds of the city below, or if the weather isn’t behaving you’ll stay safe and dry on the lower enclosed level.
Overall, this was such a wonderful day trip and made me appreciate the city I live in even more, thank you so much so INSTAX and Virgin Experience Days for organising this and treating me!
